Brendan started preschool today. I wish I could say he clung to my legs and begged me in Brendan-speak not to leave, and then with a tear in his eye bravely watched me go. Ummm, no. My son runs into the room, grabs a puzzle and starts working on it, and I become the only mother in the room who has to beg her child for a hug and kiss goodbye, because he’s too busy to notice her leaving! I am carrying Damian out and saying goodbye over and over, and he finally looks up and gives me a short “Bye” with a look that screams “Jeez mom, I’ve got stuff to do here. Vamanos!”  All around me the other moms are prying teary-eyed children off their legs, and mine is acting like he couldn’t get rid of me fast enough. Remind me independance is a good thing?

I know the feeling. Not to that extreme, but I realllly expected Charity to be upset when I left her the first day last week, and I’m not sure she even noticed I was gone, even though she watched me walk out the door. A kids independence can break your heart and make you smile all at the same time.

Brendan feels safe, secure & loved in his world. He knows all is well! Now if us mommies could remember that. LOL!
